It was not my purpose to write a detailed history of the village but I just wanted to give you some landmarks which will give you the possibilty to better understand Cap-Ferret lifestyle. For a very long time, Le Cap-Ferret was only a place to stop for the Arcachon bay fishermen, a place with only sand dunes and pine trees. And, progressively, some fishermen settled on the shores of the peninsula and the village started to grow. Tourism became more and more important all along the bay and the first tourists came at the beginning of the twentieth century. Even if the village has been administratively linked for a long time to the village of La Teste, near Arcachon, the inhabitants ket a feeling of independence towards their administrative hierarchy. Moreover, the peninsula kept a wild side and it also contributed to a certain lifestyle, more relaxed than in Arcachon... :-) Finally, in 1976, La Teste let down the administration of the village : the town of Lège Cap-Ferret was born, 25 kilometers long with numerous villages and hamlets.
